Reading Week is Finally Here!

Enjoying the midterms and papers season? I'm sure you will enjoy the reading week coming up even more!

I would like to remind all of you that practices will be canceled from Saturday, February 13th and will resume Tuesday following reading week.

Also, for those of you participating in the tournament, please make sure you are updated about how the schedule is going to work that day.

Hello everyone,

As you must all know from our oh-so-subtle promoting, the Tsumura Cup Intercollegiate Tournament at Guelph will be taking place on February 21st. This tournament is open to both beginners and seniors!

Interested in participating? Then register with either Adrian (equipment manager) or Andrew (President) by January 26th, 2010. THAT'S THIS TUESDAY! The fees are $30 to participate and another $10 if you are going to purchase a lunch.

It will be a lot of fun, so be sure to register ASAP with our execs!

We are also starting to put you beginners into bogu. It is therefore EXTREMELY IMPORTANT that you come at least 15 minutes early so we get get you all dressed and ready for practice.

Remember, 15 minutes earlier!

We hope everyone is enjoying a well deserved winter break and looking forward to another new year! Below is the new schedule for this upcoming term:

Tuesday: 7:05pm-8:55pm
Thursday: 7:05pm-8:55pm
Saturday: 2:05pm-3:55pm
(All practices will be taking place in the orange gym)

Remember, the first practice will be taking place on January 12th.

Also, an email has been sent out with an important message regarding "The Proper Attitude for Practicing Kendo". We encourage all of you to please, PLEASE read it.

Events Coming Up

Hello everyone,

There are a few things that are coming up this month:

Saturday, November 7th
There will be a SOCIAL at the Spoke at 5pm so come out and take a break from all those midterms! There will also be a MANDATORY SHINAI SEMINAR in the UCC at 7:45pm (meet at the INFOSOURCE booth). We'll be teaching you how to take properly take care of your shinai, so it's important that you come to this.

If you can't come due to midterms or some other "life-threatening"ly important thing, please send an email to equipment@uwokendo.com to make alternate arrangements.

Thursday, November 26th
We will be holding our annual BEGINNER'S TOURNAMENT during practice. It's a great learning experience and you'll get a chance to win prizes! If you're interested, please send an email to contact@uwokendo.com.

For the senior members:

Saturday, November 28th
For those of you who are participating in the SENIORS TOURNAMENT, please check your emails as there will be a notice sent out regarding accomodations and travel plans.

Sunday, November 29th
Those who are going to GRADING, please PLEASE make sure you have gotten permission from sensei and have registered online at the CKF website. If you have not yet done so, please do by NOVEMBER 20th. Don't forget!

Welcome to a new year in the kendo club!

Clubs week will take place during the week of September 14th. Come by the booth to check out what kendo is all about, meet some of our awesome club members and register to learn the art of the sword with your fellow Westerners.

ALSO,
Practices will be taking place TUESDAYS and THURSDAYS in the Lower Orange Gym from 7:05 pm- 8:55 pm this year.

The first practice date hasn't been established yet, so we'll get back to you on that soon.

NO GYM BAG POLICY

As requested by Campus Recreation, I would like to remind everyone, especially the beginners, that YOU ARE NOT PERMITTED TO BRING PERSONAL GYM BAGS, LAPTOP BAGS, OR PERSONAL POSSESSIONS INTO THE GYM.However, you are allowed to bring your SHINAI BAG, and BOGU BAG into the gym and NOTHING ELSE. Also, try to make use of the lockers in the change room, you can rent locks at the membership services desk or use your own lock.
